Industrialised, energy-efficient and fully-finished terraced housing

SUNSHINE HOUSE is a development project consisting of in total 24 two-storey terraced houses, based on the principles of passive housing. The houses will be located in the beautiful rolling countryside at the south of Kolding on the Danish mainland and in Vollerup by Sønderborg.

Domea A/S, Boligforeningen Salus A/S, the Danish Technological Institute and the Knowledge Center for Industrial Construction are behind the initiative.

The terraced houses will be prefabricated and will therefore only require to be certified as passive houses. The style, expression and choice of materials of the houses will reflect the Danish tradition for low-rise construction.

The goal of the project is:

  • to generate a number of prefabricated super-low-energy terraced house concepts, which are capable of being mass-produced
  • to provide the Danish construction industry with a choice of Danish and international super-low-energy terraced housing concepts
  • To share ideas regarding the concept of passive housing and its application in Danish low-rise construction
  • to share knowledge gained with the Danish construction industry, with the aim of raising awareness of energy-efficient construction
  • to create development opportunities for suppliers to the Danish construction industry

During the initial phase of the project, the common secretariat, headed up by the Technological Institute, will hold workshops regarding the concept of passive housing.

The development project consisted of prequalification followed by a bidding round.

From the prequalification participants, eight were invited to take part in the final bidding round, from which a four were selected to build three terraced houses each.
